SUMMARY: kernel performance

 Thanks to Dr. Thomas Blinn. Also, thanks to Samier Kesou for helpful ideas.
 
the directory search is sequential...if the file i'm seeking is at the end of the list, then it of course will take longer. so basically, it depends on the number of files &/or where the file falls in the sequence .
