Floppy Drive on 4.0G

I'm trying to get my Floppy drive to work on a 4.0G machine.

I have /dev/fd0a & /dev/fd0c in dev. But if I try to cat a file directly
to the device, I get an error (device does not exist or device not ready),
and the floppy light does NOT come on at all.

I removed the 2 dev files & did ./MAKEDEV fd0, but the same results occur.

Any suggestions?
