Thanks to Bryan Lavelle from Compaq for this one,
His suggestion was to wait for 4.0D Patch Kit 9, which has
now been released, which should contain a fix for this issue,
or get the patch for case #BCSM30828.
I have installed patch kit 9, and the problem seems to have
disappeared. I have a 2-week uptime and no "Panic: Receive 3"
troubles. Before the patch, usually I would get the panic
after a week or so of uptime.
Previously, I was running Patch Kit 8. I didn't have the problem
when I was running Patch Kit 4 beforehand, so the problem seems
to have been introduced somewhere between Patch Kit 5 and 8.
For those running 4.0D Bryan also reminded me that Compaq will
release no more patch kits for this version of DU, since
engineering support ceased on June 30th.
