Sure we've known this for some months that Compaq has sold off the Alpha
processor division to Intel. However, atleast with Compaq in command, we
had some hope that the Compaq/Digital systems would continue to use the
Alpha processor, thus somewhat insuring that there would still be Alpha
processors in the future.

Now with HP in command, since they already have many $$ invested in their
PA-RISC processor, they will dump/stop the use of the Alpha processor (and
thus stop Tru64 and anything else connected with the Alpha processor) and
promote their own. Probably some "migration paths" from Digital to HP
sort of thing.

So in short.....

READ MY LIPS: HP/Compaq/Digital will NOT, and I repeat, WILL NOT, port
Tru64 to Intel or another processor. It just won't happen, and history
has proved it such (e.g. HP/Apollo merger). ;-)

The best we can hope for is that the "new HP" will produce good products,
taking on the "good" things from Compaq and Digital.
