Hi All,
Thanks for the quick responses. It was suggested that
the /usr/sbin/salvage command be used, and it indeed
was successful in digging out some data. However, I
learnt that
(1) It recovers files and names them tag_10334 or some
tag_xxxxxx number like that. You would have to go
through the files to find out what it is.
(2) We hadn't defrag'd lately, so most files came out
partially recovered.
Thanks for the help!
I have another question: The crashed computer had 3
disks, and the 3rd disk had /dev/rz2c as a partition
on the usr domain, which we now know has crashed. I am
trying to clean-reinstall the machine now, and I am
unable to re-partition that drive. The partition keeps
showing up as an advfs partition. diskconfig says
changes are made, but if I re-open that disk for
config, it shows the same advfs partition again. <the
partition actually covers the whole disk>
disklabel -r /dev/disk/dsk2c <I am installing 5.1>
says "not a character device"
How do I re-use that disk afresh? Format it? How do I
do that?
Thanks a lot all!
