Thanx to Jeff Hummel and Shelden Ball on their recommendations
regarding this problem.
Jeff suggested checking the firmware, somehow the console firmware
eliminates problems with DE500 card, he mentioned that FW 5.8 works
fine.
Shelden mentioned that it might be two different ethernet settings in
the SRM and the rc.config on the 410 system which might cause the
problem. I quote the following from his response:
"Your symptoms sound consistant with there being different settings
in the 4100: one ethernet setting is specified in the SRM
and a different one is specified in rc.config.
The switch autoconfigures to match the first ethernet setting
(as specified by the SRM) and then loses connectivity when the operating
system changes the interface characteristics to whatever is specified
in rc.config.
You also need to be aware that DE500 interfaces cannot run reliably
at 100Mbits,full duplex. 100Mbits, half-duplex works fine.
(Use your favorite Web search engine and search for the keywords
DE500 and PROBLEM to see what others have said about it.)
"
The SRM and rc.config are the same, operating at 100 full duplex, and
it has been working fine for a long time.
The switch was a Gigabit switch with additional 100MB ports
After rebooting the machine then the switch, it didn't connect, so we
had to move the network cable from the Gigabit switch to another 100MB
switch, and now it works fine but it is SLOW. This would be another
problem for me.
Thanx for your help.
