Thanks to everyone who helped, especially Thierry Faidherbe, James
Sainsbury, Hajnik Ferenc, Cathy Chandra and others.
Thierry and James came with the solution.
The problem:
I have 3 hosts: box1, box2 and box3.
To allow root's "rsh" from hosts box1 and box2, box3 should have box1 and
box2 names in .rhosts in the root directory.
Correct?
I thought it's all it takes, but...
it works for box1, but doesn't work for box2, though there are nothing
special about either of them.
rsh on box2 comes back with a message "Permission denied".
Example: box2:> rsh box3 ls
Permission denied.
What else should I look at?
Solution:
Very simple. Box1 and Box2 are multihomed.
For some reason box2 has lost primary network and started to use alternative
connection box2a.
Name box2a wasn't in .rhosts on box3.
This list is great!
