Strange Oracle processes

Hi Managers !

We experience strange problems on our SAP production cluster.

When using the Oracle Enterprise Manager or SQL-Plus and doing a lot of SQL
statements
an oracle process gets into a strange state :

USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY S STARTED TIME
COMMAND
oraxxx 646120 97.4 0.0 1.58G 1.4M ?? R 08:35:04 8:10.35
[oracle]

It eats all available CPU and dies within 10 minutes. This causes a lot of
performance problems
on the database server. We get several every hour.

Environment :
- 2xGS160 in a dual-MC cluster.
- 4 CPU's
- 8Gb of memory
- SAN Storage
- Tru64 5.1 patchkit 3
- Custom async_io patch to prevent crashes when Oracle fills up a disk
100%.
- Oracle 8.1.6.3.1
- SAP R/3 4.6C

Does anyone know what a process in brackets [oracle] means ?
Has anyone experienced similar problems ?

Best regards,
