Dear Tru64 admins,
this is more an "Alpha firmware" than a Tru64 question, but
still I trust in your collective wisdom ...
I have an Alpha Station 200 4/166 which had been intended for
Windows NT (Alpha), so it has the "ARC Multiboot" firmware
(version 3.5-13, dated in 1993).
It now runs Linux (AXP version) 2.2.16 (SuSE 7.0), booting via Milo.
I now want to replace the (original) Digital TGA graphics card
with a Matrox Millennium G200 (PCI version), but the ARC version
can not handle this card. A (Compaq) expert on Alpha Linux graphics
recommends to upgrade the ARC version.
For my Tru64 machines, I get (and keep) the Alpha firmware upgrade CDs.
AIUI, they contain the SRM console firmware and some device firmware -
but do they also contain ARC console firmware?
For example, the "Release Notes" for firmware V5.7 (came with
Tru64 4.0G) list an "NT firmware" - is this the "ARC Multiboot"?
(For such an upgrade, I would prefer using a CD over an FTP download
copied to floppy - it seems safer IMHO.)
In addition - does anybody happen to know which is the minimum
ARC firmware supporting the Matrox Millennium G200,
and would the newest ARC firmware stiff support a Digital TGA card?
Of course, I will summarize.
Regards,
Joerg Bruehe
