They sent me the needed documentation

     dec3000_v70_fw_relnote.{ps,pdf} - this is found on the FW-CD
     Take a look at page 2-13; 2.3.6, (p.35)

Peter.Stern also noted:

First of all, the 500/500x/800/900 is on type of machine while
400/600/700 is another. So it is very unlikely that your machine was
ever upgraded (?) from 800->700. More likely from 800->900.

The correct machine upgrade is probably 500->800->900
