for their very good and very quick responses:

one has to modify /ect/sysconfigtab and reboot.

To modify sysconfigtab, some think it is possible
to edit it and add at the end
proc:
        task-max=1000
It's what I have done, this works.

But others prefer dxkerneltuner,

and others mention it is dangerous to edit sysconfigtab,
and prefer create a "stanza file" tmpfile
and use the sysconfigdb command
        sysconfigdb -m s tmpfile
to enter the change into sysconfigtab.

Thanks and regards

original question:
Please what is the way to increase the task-max parameter
on Tru64 4.0F ?

I try /sbin/sysconfig -r proc task-max=1000
but I obtain
task-max: attribute does not allow this operation

thanks in advance
