Dear All
Further to my original posting of some months ago I have just received
information that fully diagnoses the fault of the missing LUNs on HSZ70
controllers. It seems that there is a bug in v7.7 of the controller firmware
that causes the hardware id of the controller to be erased if you carry out
a ' set failover copy=this' command. This causes the controller to fail to
work correctly and produces the problem that I experienced on an
installation of v5.1 unix where we could only see 4 luns in the
configuration. The easy way to check if you controller is damaged is to look
at the devices at the '>>>' prompt, and if the description 'HSZ70' is
missing the controller hardware id is missing. There is a command to check
online, but you will need to contact you maintainer to get this. There are
patches available from Compaq to fix the bug in the firmware, but if the
controller already has the problem I'm not sure what can be done to fix the
error.
There is another way around the problem, and that is to connect to the
second controller, and do a 'set failover copy=other' command. This works
correctly, only if the hardware id is still intact, of course.
