SUMMARY: Gigabit JUMBO Packet TCP/IP Applications
Two GS140's have recently been upgraded to 5.1. Each
has a DEGPA, alt0, gigabit ethernet device. One is an
NFS client of the other. We now run 1000 MB Full
Duplex, but want to try JUMBO packet frames. The man
page on alt, points out how to enable JUMBO packets:
#ifconfig alt0 ipmtu 9000 Later, the man page
indicates that "standard TCP/IP applications (for
example, ftp and rcp) are not degined to run at
Gigabit speeds. So, will NFS work with JUMBO packets
enabled? Yes according to Peter Rival, who says
Compaq used NFS with JUMBO frames with V5.1 for
SPECsfs97. Peter provided a hint, "make sure you have
enough NFS server threads running for your client
load, but not too many either. :)".
