v5.1-nmap crashes ypbind

I'm running v5.1, patch-kit 3 on an alphastation 500 as an nis server.
Running a vanilla nmap tcp scan against the machine crashes ypbind. no other
type of scan will cause a crash. the console gives:
ypbind going down on signal 11
svc_tcp: makefd_xprt: getsockname: failed errno Connection reset by peer
portmap[348]: onsig: recieved unexpected signal 11. restarting
telneting to the ypbind port or the portmap port does not cause this, and the
machine works as an nis/ftp server until being scanned. Is there way to fix
this?
