SUMMARY:Print problem

Hi,

I've got an interim fix for this. I believe the problem to be network
related though I haven't defined exactly what is. Suspects are the onboard
tu interface or perhaps a failing switch. The ASU software was configured to
use the primary gigabit interface alt0 with some NETBIOS traffic running
over tu0. tu0 showed some errors in netstat so I've removed it from the ASU
config. The problems experienced by the PC client users have stopped. Note
that the print problems were restricted to PC application users. Unix lpd
print users who by default would use the alt0 interface weren't affected.
I've zeroed the stats on tu0 and even after a short time the error count is
significant.

There are some other network oddities on site so I'm inclined to think the
fault lies with one of the switches.

Thanks go to Jan Hansen and especially to William Skulley for their
assistance.

System is ES40 running 5.0A pk2, ASU, HP4000 series printers, clients are
NT4 SP6 or later. In no discernible pattern the users are getting print
failures. Common symptoms are job is sent, status indicates it's printed ok
but nothing comes out. From the log file I'm seeing

lp5: Thu Oct 18 12:00:11 2001: done sending files to HP4500CN to be
printed

There's a similar post in the archives but no summary. Anyone got any
ideas?
