Well,
Thanks to all who replied.
I just killed the decterm (dtwm) process that was running on the console
and it logged me off the console, then I logged in again without any
problems.
Though I didn't try any of the suggested remedies, I will sure try them
when it happens again, or I will force the problem to happen then try
to solve it on a test machine.
Thanx ALL
Here are some of the interesting replies I got

>From Stan Horwitz:
I do not know if this is related to your problem, but have you seen the
recent CERT advisory about a buffer overflow vulnerability with CDE's
ToolTalk? If not, you certainly should. The advisory is available at
http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-2001-27.html

I kept getting this message about ttdb.serverd cannot
connect, tooltalk may not be running. So, i tested it
by disabling ttdb in /etc/inetd.conf

re-enabled ttdb (tool talk db server).

ORIGINAL QUESTION:
--------------------------------------------------------
Hi all,
I had a strange message on my ES40 True64 Unix V 4.0G Console this
morning. When I try to click on any icon on the CDE application
manager bar, it comes with an Application Manager Error: "The
request to service this action has failed. A ToolTalk connection
could not be established"
Have anyone saw this?, any way to recover?
