First I would like to thank myself for fixing this problem (no one else responded) and second there actually wasn't a problem. If you don't let gtar completely finish it will not update the ownership of the files and directories being restored...

Subject: Gtar problems
Hello all!
I've created a gtar archive of a directory using "gtar cvpfz filename.tgz directory" and am having major trouble getting it to restore properly. Basically I've moved the archive to another machine and when I try to restore using "gtar xvpfz filename.tgz" the ownership is not retained on the directories...only the files. Is there something I'm missing?? The platforms are both DU 4.0g.
Thanks in advance,
Brandon Malli
