Dear Managers,

We have an environment here that has multiple Compaq servers, GS320,
es40's and 8400 running Tru64 Unix 5.1. We are using Storage Tek 9840
Fibre drives to do our backups. The servers have 2 HBA attached to them
strictly for backups. Each HBA connects to a Brocade 2800 Silkworm
Switch, which is zoned to see 5 Fibre drives each. Each server can see
a total of 10 drives, 5 on one HBA the other 5 on the second HBA. We
have been conducting many test and have found that the tape drives on
the highest level HBA sometimes do not show up after the server
reboots. What I mean when I say don't show up is that when I issue the
hwmgr -show scsi | grep tape command, the tape drives are listed, but we
don't have a valid path to them. The path shows "null". We have
upgraded the switch firmware to 2.1.9m and the HBA firmware to 2.0.2 per
Compaq's recommendation. However, none those changes have worked. I am
wondering if there is anyone out there with a similar setup that had
this type of problem and could help us figure out how to solve it here.

Thanks,
