Aditional: kernel build fails after upgrade

Hi all,

In addition to the summary I sent a couple of days ago,
(
http://www.ornl.gov/its/archives/mailing-lists/tru64-unix-managers/2001/10/m
sg00424.html ) I like to share the following.

After the upgrade, files and directories in /sys/conf and /usr/sys had the
date '1 Jan 1970' This problem should not occur after applying the CDFS
patch
(
http://ftp.support.compaq.com/patches/public/Readmes/unix/cdfsdate_v51.READM
E )
before performing an upgrade.

Not only the files in /usr/sys where had the wrong date, but also the
/vmunix and /genvmunix file. After the upgrade, a the kernel rebuild failed.
But there still was a /vmunix file. The /genvumix file was of exact the same
size as the /vmunix.

I already build another generic kernel (doconfig -c GENERIC) and this one
differs from the kernel I build after the upgrade, and after touching the
files with the current date.

My questions:
During an upgrade, what happens to the /genvmunix file? (if anything)
Should I replace the /genvmunix file with the newly created
/sys/GENERIC/vmunix file?

Thanks in advance,
Alex
