Kernel build problem : ds20e

All...

New DS20E system with DE602 NIC's.

1.Have installed V4.0F ok (application requires this).
2.Have installed supplemental h/w support CD ok and DE600's work fine.
3.Have installed patch kit 5 (not the latest but it needs to look like
another system for testing)

The kernel built as part of the patch kit install fails (manual build via
doconfig also fails).

Actual error message is:
"Configuration file has errors.
/usr/sys/BINARY/files: Local file MODULE/STATIC/ee overrides ee.
Error: module ee already exists"

I found a reference to this a while back:
http://www.ornl.gov/its/archives/mailing-lists/tru64-unix-managers/2001/05/m
sg00598.html

Dr Tom said that there was a problem with the supplemental hardware kit AND
the patch kit both adding the 'ee.h' file and not checking for its prior
existence. The solution said that simply editing one of these files and
removing the 1 line definition solved the problem.

Ok but not for me. Heres all the ee.h files which exist:
cscat04.vfl.vodafone_root> find / -name ee.h -exec ls -l {} \;
-rw-r--r-- 1 root system 14 Nov 1 15:46 /usr/sys/CSCAT04/ee.h
-rw-r--r-- 1 root system 14 Nov 1 15:58
/usr/sys/HW_INSTALL/ee.h

Heres all the ee.mod files which exist (don't know if these are relevant):
cscat04.vfl.vodafone_root> find / -name ee.mod -exec ls -l {} \;
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root bin 26 Nov 1 15:14 /usr/sys/BINARY/ee.mod
->
../../../sys/BINARY/ee.mod
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root system 16 Nov 1 16:00
/usr/sys/CSCAT04/ee.mod ->
 ../BINARY/ee.mod
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root system 22 Nov 1 15:22
/usr/sys/HW_INSTALL/ee.mod
 -> /usr/sys/BINARY/ee.mod
-r--r--r-- 1 root system 42237 Nov 1 15:13 /sys/BINARY/ee.mod

cscat04.vfl.vodafone_root> cat /usr/sys/CSCAT04/ee.h
#define NEE 1

Both of the ee.h files are identical as above.

I deleted the contents of /usr/sys/HW_INSTALL/ee.h file (but left the file
in place). doconfig fails - same error.

I then deleted contents of the other ee.h file and it still fails with same
error - wow.

Repeated whilst booted from GENERIC kernel. This made no difference.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks - Tony
