UPDATE: Restoring a backup onto a different system

From: Copper, Steve <scopper_at_westernpower.co.uk>

All,

I have been advised by Jason Neil that I have to get rid of LSM from the
system and start it up again. To that extent I have managed to get rid of it
but when I am trying to start it up again, i am getting the error message

auto negotiation restart failed

when trying to encapsulate rz0.

How can I get round this?

Thanks
Steve

Managers,

I am trying to restore a backup of a different system onto this system. Both
systems are identical in their hardware (es40's, same number of processors,
memory etc...) The only difference is that the set of disks in the cabinet
have different scsi numbering. But it is not working. Here is the scenario

The original system is using LSM for its OS which we have mirrored on disks
rz0 and rz1 (v4.0f). The backup that was taken of the live server was taken
using vdump of / /usr and /var. So my procedure on the new server so far has
been to boot from cd, drop into the unix shell, make the devices, make new
domains and filesets (pointing at the same devices i.e rz0a, rz0d and rz0e.
I have then mounted the filesets onto temporay mount points and restored the
backup onto them using vrestore. Then shut the system down and tried to boot
from disk rz0a into single user mode using genvmunix. I have then run
bcheckrc which starts LSM and mounts the filesystem, but at this point it
fails with the following error:

lsm:vold: Error: enable failed: Error in disk group configuration copies. No
valid disk found containing disk group; transactions are disabled.
lsm:vold: FATAL Error: Rootdg cannot be imported during boot

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

Steve Copper
