maxuprc problem

I previously mailed this list with a problem about the Xserver apparently
locking up and leaving me without any graphics/keyboard/mouse on my DPW500a
w/ Tru64v5.0A. I never figured out the root cause of this but I got
suggestions as how to remote login and restart the Xserver. This has been an
acceptable work around. However, I needed to do this today and after
telneting in I immediately got this:

task_create() failed for pid 22641: maxuprc (=512) exceeded for uid 200.
task_create() failed for pid 22641: maxuprc (=512) exceeded for uid 200.

.profile[29]: cannot fork: too many processes

Any attempt to run another command results in the same error. Why would I be
running out of room to create processes (I am uid 200)? Previously the
screen was locked over the weekend and only a couple of apps were running
(Netscape and dtterm I think). Any ideas.

Thanks
Simon Rees
