NFS stall

nfsd on our ES40 (TU5.0A PK3) seems to have stalled.
'ps -eopid,stat,command' shows it in state U
(Uninterruptible sleeping process.).
Any suggestions for a cause and for a recovery method
which doesnt involve a reboot? (I bet the shutdown
would stall and I'd have to crash-stop the machine)
