Recently installed a EMC Symm, EMC disk splits are 4:1 on 50 GB disk drives,
assigned 18 spindles to the Compaq GS-160 running Tru64 UNIX Version 5.1A.,
all disk are mirrored, using 100MB Fiber to two Host Bus Adapters. Oracle
recommends thin wide stripes across as many spindles as possible. Server
used for OLTP and case management applications. LSM guide recommends using
at least three volumes with LSM, plan on using 6 disk plexes with three
volumes. Looking for advice on best methods from folks that have Oracle
applications running on EMC disk farms. Should the volumes be striped across
all 18 disk or 6 disk sets. Did you have to adjust the kernel setting for
EMC throughput increases, if so what parameters? I was thinking that the
Unified Buffer Cache would have to be increased to accommodate the increased
through put. I looking for proven general suggestion from folks that are
running Oracle and EMC on above platforms. On a fast ramp up, server
downtime is difficult need to get right the first time, or very close.
Looking for suggestions, and your site best practices and past performance
with EMC products on Compaq Tru64 UNIX servers.

Thanks in advanced,

        John
