Process idle

Hello to all,

I have AlphaServer ES40 with 1GB RAM.
I found out by runing dxproctuner that system process [kernel idle] is
extremely large.
I guess system was rebooted 9 months ago (it's HighAvability server).

I include information shown by ps command

PID TTY S TIME SL PAGEIN VSZ RSS %CPU %MEM
COMMAND
     0 ?? R < 17:25:16 868958946 2162 693M 28M 0.0 2.7
[kernel idle]

As you can see real memory used is 28MB and virtual memory is 693MB.
It seems a way to much for idle process.

Does anyone knows is it normal for idle process to grow so big ?
And can be something different done except rebooting to get it down to
smaller size ?
