How to debug "U" process?

Hi,

We run an ES40 as mail server (sendmail 8.12.0).
The core process which listen on port 25 from time to time freezes in
"U" state. We need to reboot the box to fix the problem.

1. Anybody has the same problem?
2. Is there a way to debug "U" process?
