Suggestion to upgrade from 4.0F to 5.1

Hi

    We have are planning to upgrade our servers from 4.0F to 5.1..with
upgrade path 4.0F -- >4.0G --> 5.1 .Are there any know problems with
this, we have two systems where we do want to restore data if we do a
fresh install of 5.1.Also what is the patch level on 4.0F we need to be
before we go to 4.0G and patch level on 4.0G to go to 5.1...Any
suggestions ..and is it really risky...
