Dear gurus,
here is the problem:
I had a system with tru64unix V4.0f in which there was a disk configured
under LSM (a sliced disk).
The host died. No backup were previously done (the machine wasn't under
my responsibility...).
I tried to recover lost data installing LSM on another machine (4.0f),
coneccting the LSM disk to the new machine, and following the
instructions of LSM manual, but maybe I didn't understand well what I
should do (I've no experience about LSM).
Sarting LSM (volsetup) seems to require that at least one disk need to
be configured under LSM, but I don't have a disk to use. I only want to
read what there is in the already configured disk.
The command leaves the vold "not running" after creating device volumes.
Instructions in chapter 6.3.7 (Moving disk groups between systems: seems
to be the right chapter) seems to require the vold running (I got the
error "voldisk: Volume daemon is not running"), and to require the
knowledge of the previous configuration (group name).
Instructions in chapter 14.11.5 (Recovery the LSM configuration: it
seems also better...) is right for the first instructions (volinstall;
shutdown; voliod set 2; vold -m disable; voldctl init; voldctl add disk
rz17) but when I type "voldctl enable", the system answers:
lsm:vold: Error: enable failed: Error in disk group configuration copies
No valid disk found containing disk group; transactions are
disabled.
voldctl: enable failed: Error in disk group configuration copies
Maybe does it mean that informations found in the private partition
don't match with the current SCSI address of the disk...?
Anyway, I don't know how to go on.
Any suggestion?
Thank you in advance.
Bye.
Alessandro
