Thank you for all of the responses.
Original question:
Does anyone know for sure if an AlphaStation 250
4/266 will support a RZ29B-VA.
First I would like to apologize for not being specific about
what I was wanting information about.
I received several responses that the RZ29B-VA would work in an
attached shelf or pedestal. I have in fact done this with no
problems.
However, what I want to do is take the RZ29B-VA out of the SBB
& install it in the AlphaStation 250 in place of the RZ28 that
is currently installed. The RZ28 is beginning to squeal & I am
concerned about its reliability. I figured if I was going to
replace the drive I might as will replace it with a one with
larger capacity.
I received a couple of responses that indicated this should
work.
I have since removed the RZ29B-VA from the canister & found
that it is actually a Seagate ST15150N Barracuda 4. I
Seagate's Web site & found information about this drive,
including jumper settings. My main concern at this point about
installing this drive in the AlphaStation is heat. I remember
that when we installed RZ29B-VA drives in SBBs into a SW800
StorageWorks cabinet we had to install an fan shelf for
additional cooling.
I'm reasonably certain that the on-board SCSI adapter in the
AlphaStation will recognize this drive. A "show config" shows
the adapter is the same as a KZPAA, which is what I have the
StorageWorks pedistal attached to that contains several RZ29B-
VA drives.
