Backing up NTFS security data?

Managers,

I'm considering setting up SMB server: either a ASU or Samba.

I've never done that in production before, and I'm wondering how well the NT security model is implemented.

I want to be able to have the NT/2000/XP Access Control List stuff work.

I also want to be able to back up the data and have a restore handle this meta-data as well.

Last, but not least, if I can get this to work, I would like to be able to backup external Windows Shares via the Alpha.

For this also, I would like to ensure that the meta-data (i.e. security info) is backed up and restored.

Note: I am NOT a Windows administrator, so I don't know how this meta-data is typically backed up.

Any information related to the above would be appreciated.
