As usual many very quick responses. Thank you all wonderful forum.
The original question:
Is there a way to find out, which network-controller is used in an Alpha?
I cannot shutdown the system, and are physically not in the neighbourhood of
the server to look at the card itself.
In this particular case the system is an AlphaServer 1000A 4/266, and I need
to know if the network controller supports 100Mb.
As this system can have DE435 as well as DE500, I need to know which card is
mounted.
Maybe I need to order/replace the card before I can switch from 10 to 100Mb.
The summary:
The overwhelming response was to do an "uerf -R -r 300 | more" or "dia -R"
Or use DECevent. Or look at /var/adm/messages.
These state the NIC card or at least the chip on the card. If the chip is
21040 it can only handle 10Mbps.
I was hoping to find the cardtype at runtime, but that seems not to be the
case at all times.
Anyhow, my question is answered. Thanks to
