Problems with 180 GByte Seagate disk with 16 MB Cache

Hi Admin's

i've installed a 180 GB Seagate disk with 16 MB Cache.
ST1181677LCV

Now it seems, that the disk will lose data without any reports at uerf, messages....
for example:
i copied some gzipped files on this disk - wait some hours and when i will un-
zipped these files, some are not able to unzipp:

o21[0] /xmm/archive/data/hmb # gunzip 0081*

gunzip: 0081_0123701001_PNS00300AUX.FIT.gz: invalid compressed data--crc error

gunzip: 0081_0123701001_PNS00300AUX.FIT.gz: invalid compressed data--length erro
r

i do a test: cp ... to /xmm/archive/data/hmb/2_test/0081.

o21[0] /xmm/archive/data/hmb/2_test # gunzip -t 0081*
o21[0] /xmm/archive/data/hmb/2_test # gunzip -t 0081*
o21[0] /xmm/archive/data/hmb/2_test # cd ..

some hours later:

o21[0] /xmm/archive/data_defekt/hmb # gunzip -t 0081*

gunzip: 0081_0123701001_PNS00300AUX.FIT.gz: invalid compressed data--crc error

gunzip: 0081_0123701001_PNS00300AUX.FIT.gz: invalid compressed data--length error

gunzip: 0081_0123701001_PNS00311IME.FIT.gz: invalid compressed data--crc error

gunzip: 0081_0123701001_PNS00311IME.FIT.gz: invalid compressed data--length error

gunzip: 0081_0123920101_PNS01500AUX.FIT.gz: invalid compressed data--crc error

...

Compaq told me they had a similiar problem seen one time.

Does anyone have a solution? How could i decrease the cache from 16 MB to 4 MB?
