question on serial connection to an Alphaserver 400 4/233

Greetings,

I recently came into the pocession of an Alphaserver 400 4/233 that was
running VMS for years and then was retired from service. I've checked it
over and it looks OK. It sounds like it's booting into vms.

I want to install T64 on it. One small problem. I can't seem to get a
serial connection working to the box. I've set up my Reflextions session
to use com port 1 using 8/n/1 at 9600. I've connected to dozens of serial
consoles using this setup. The only thing I can think of is a bad serial
cable. Any other thoughts? Is there something I need to do on the alpha
to tell it to use the serial port?

Plus - is there anything special I need to do to get T64 5.1a installed on
this server?

        thanks,

        Paul
