Nohup (silly question)

Greetings,

I have a command that I would like to run in the background and not
terminate after I log out. How would I perform this.

I tried:
nohup command >/dev/null &

After I logged out and logged back in the command had died (upon logout)
Any suggestions. I thought this was correct, but it wasn't.
