Thanks to Emmanuel, Dan Price, Samier, & Greg
Freemyer, for their leads. I will followup to see which
of these if any can suit our needs. This is a summary
of what they had to say:
P.S. : first of all, try to get the book from Brocade.
All of the san
switches that
are sold by constructors come from this company, even
in OEM.
It will give you a good start in design.

I'm in the process of getting my Master SAN Architect
certification
from Compaq.
It requires you take 319 (or 329), 330, 331, and 441.
(Think $15K for
all 4 classes.)
(See
http://www.compaq.com/training/2072tech3.html for
scheduling
info.)
I've taken 319, 330, and 331.
319 is on the RA8000/MA8000 class arrays and their
integration into
various UNIX flavors (mostly Tru64 and Solaris), but
covers "SANS" in
broad brush-strokes. (It also covers SCSI based
controllers like the
HSZ-80).
329 is like 319, but it focuses on integrating to
NT/2000 servers.
330 is more of an applications course and it covers:
EVM (Enterprise
Volume Manager), VR (Virtual Replicator, DRM (Data
Replication Manager),
and SRM (System Resource Manager). VR is NT/2000
only. SRM is
targeted at Windows shops, but supports Tru64 clients
(The SRM server must be
NT/2000).
331 is a tie it all together course. It is what I
would actually call
a SAN course, but it assumes you understand the basics
from the first 2
classes and they are officially pre-reqs. The first
day is a review of
319/329/330. It focuses on switches and overall
solutions. As a class
project we built a 10 switch SAN in my class. We had
a NT, Tru64
V5.1, and Solaris servers setup with a couple of
MA8000 arrays. We also
put a Management station on the SAN.
441 is about "Enterprise Backup Solutions" and that is
all I know.
If I had the flexibility to choose, I would have just
taken 319 and
331. I thought they were both great courses. 330 was
a waste of time in
my opinion. One afternoon in 331 is dedicated to
doing a "customer SAN
proposal" that needs some software features, but you
work in teams of 3
or 4, so one of your team-mates should be able to
handle the
VR/SRM/EVM/DRM issues.
I'm looking forward to 441, but I don't think it is
really a SAN
course, but who knows.
