Best Digital Unix/Tru64 for DEC 3000/600 Alpha?

The Situation

A former employer of mine has a DEC 3000/600 Alpha machine that was once
part of a working 3-machine ArcInfo GIS network. Much bad luck over the
last 6 years, however the office still has a valid and valuable ArcInfo
license. The 3000/600 works fairly well under OSF1 v2.0 but seems to
need at least a firmware upgrade for the current ArcInfo license manager
to work (Y2K issues, apparently).

They have media kits for ArcInfo 7.1.X for OSF1 and 7.1.1 "for Digital
Unix 4.0 or higher." The CDrom drive has been known to work within the
last year.

I was unable to find an archived firmware upgrade old enough to work
with the OSF1, but the latest firmware upgrades for the 3000/600 will
work on that machine with Digital Unix from v5.0 back to and before 4.0.

The Question

So to those on the list who are running one of those old 3000/600
Alphas, the question is this:

In your experience, what is the best version of Digital Unix or T64,
v4.0 or above, for the 3000/600 in a stand-alone environment or
networked to a PC?
