ASE tape service.

Hello -

I am running Tru64 4.0D PK8. I need to upgrade a TZ887 to a TL891. During
the harware upgrade portion of the upgrade, I will be taking the tape
service offline. Before I bring the ASE tape service back on line I will
have created the media changer device, and a new tape device. Before I
start messing with my ASE configuration, a backup copy of the asecdb will be
made. The tape service contains one tape device, one advfs domain for
Networker software, and a media changer device.

Question: If I attempt to edit the tape service while it's offline, will I
in anyway whatsoever corrupt the asecdb? I ask this based upon the fact
that the service is deleted and created by ASE when changes like this are
made.

Question: Do I even need to take the service offline in asemgr to change
the hardware, if the bus is properly terminated, and one advfs domain will
be present for SCSI "pings"?

Thanks,

Thomas Kemp
