ds20e : v4.0f + PK6 : volencap does nothing

All...

I'm going nuts over what is bound to be a really simple problem. I am
cloning a DS20E system from another of identical configuration. This was
LSM mirrored with ADVFS file systems. Have done o/s restore tests loads of
times with no problems on other systems but this one is giving me grief...

All is fine - I have booted from the CD and selected the UNIX shell option;
Partitioned with advfs boot blocks; restored my file systems; changed
inittab to remove the lsm related entries; modified fstab to refer to
/dev/rz format entries; edited sysconfigtab to remove the lsm entries;
removed the plex structures; changed my ADVFS links to /dev/rz format;
edited rc.config to change IP address; routes file requires no change;
edited the hosts file to change the node name & IP address.

All is ok. machine is up and online in run leven 3 with its new identity.
Connectable via the network. All licenses are installed. nslookup works
just fine. All looks good. At this point I want to intilaise LSM:

BOOT_DEFDEV is ok - set to DKA0
BOOT_osflags is ok - set to S

>>>boot
---blah blah - stuff cut out here---
INIT: SINGLE-USER MODE
-: PS1=_root> : is not an identifier
# mount -u /
# mount -a
# who -r
   . run-level 0 Mar 4 17:13 0 0 3
# init s

INIT: New run level: S

INIT: SINGLE-USER MODE
-: PS1=_root> : is not an identifier
# who -r
   . run-level S Mar 4 17:18 S 1 S
# volencap -s
---nothing displayed as you would expect---

# volencap rz0
Setting up encapsulation for rz0.
- Disk rz0 is the system boot disk and LSM is not initialized.
  Creating simple disk rz0h to initialize LSM and rootdg.
- Partition rz0a is the root partition which requires 2 passes
  to encapsulate and the temporary use of a free partition.
  Using partition rz0g for temporary root encapsulation.
- Creating nopriv disk for primary swap device rz0b.
- Creating nopriv disk for rz0d.
- Creating nopriv disk for rz0e.
- Creating nopriv disk for rz0f.

The following disks are queued up for encapsulation or use by LSM.
You must reboot the system to perform the actual encapsulations.
    rz0h rz0a rz0g rz0b rz0d rz0e rz0f

# shutdown -r now
Shutdown at 17:18

So all looks good - but nothing happens at this point. The damn thing just
dumps me back at the single user prompt:

INIT: SINGLE-USER MODE
-: PS1=_root> : is not an identifier
#

I'm expecting this to reboot several times to do the encapsulation. The o/s
still thinks the requests are queued up but nothing happens:
# mount -u /
# mount -a
# volencap -s

The following disks are queued up for encapsulation or use by LSM.
You must reboot the system to perform the actual encapsulations.
    rz0h rz0a rz0g rz0b rz0d rz0e rz0f

I guess I must have missed something somewhere. Any ideas??

Thanks - Tony
