DS20E not finding fibre storage in Tru64 UNIX 5.1A

Hello Managers,

I'm trying to connect a "white-box" storage subsystem manufactured by
Xyratex (same as the SGI TP9100) using Mylex DAC-FFX fibre-channel RAID
controllers to an AlphaServer DS20E with a DS-KGPSA-CA controller. We have
two RAID sets: a RAID 1 set at ID 0, LUN 0, and a RAID 5 set at ID 0, LUN
1.

When booting Tru64 UNIX 5.1A, it shows the following:

emx1 at PCI 0 slot 9
KGPSA-CA: Driver Rev 1.32a : F/W Rev 3.03X2(1.11) : WWN 1000-0000-c924-54e4
emx1: Using console topology setting of : Fabric
emx1: emx_link_timeout: link attach timeout has expired

When going in to partition the RAID sets, the system lists the first RAID
set (LUN 0) as "dsk1 DACARMRB bus-5-targ-0-lun-0", but doesn't list the
second RAID set (it will only list LUN 0, even if we swap the LUNs on the
storage end). It will allow me to partition dsk1, and acts like everything
is working fine, but when going in to view the partitions, it still has the
old partition structure.

When booting Tru64 UNIX 4.0G, it only sees the RAID set on LUN 0 (not the
set on LUN 1), but at least lets me write to it (version 5.1A won't write to
the RAID set). I can partition it, create a file system, and copy files
back and forth. When booting, it gives the same messages as 5.1A
(emx_link_timeout ...), but it still allows access to at least one RAID set.
When I boot 5.1A, mount the file system created by 4.0G, it acts like
everything is working fine, but it doesn't actually write anything to the
RAID set.

When running "emxmgr" in Tru64 UNIX 5.1A, it initially indicates that the
controller link is down. If I run "hwmgr -scan scsi", it lists the link as
up in emxmgr, and it lists the port ID and node ID for the first RAID set
(at LUN 0). However, it still won't allow any writing to the volume, nor
will it display the second RAID set at LUN 1.

Running "scu" and typing "show edt" lists the following:

CAM Equipment Device Table (EDT) Information:

Bus/Target/Lun Device Type ANSI Vendor ID Product ID Revision
N/W
--------------------- -------- ------- --------- ---------------- --------
---
0 0 0 Direct SCSI-2 COMPAQ BD018122C0 3B07
W
1 0 0 CD-ROM SCSI-2 COMPAQ CD-224E 9.5B
N
5 0 0 Direct SCSI-2 MYLEX DACARMRB PSEUDO 7775
N
5 0 1 Direct SCSI-2 MYLEX DACARMRB PSEUDO 7775
N
Since the controllers appear to be using pseudo LUNs, does Tru64 UNIX have
an issue with this? Does anyone know of a way to access the RAID sets using
Tru64 UNIX 5.1A?
Thanks in advance,
David Monroe
