Thank you all for your reply's. Some suggested using Samba or a product

Yes, Tru64 UNIX lpd is RFC1179 compliant. See our web site
at
http://www.tru64unix.compaq.com/printing/bsd.html
<
http://www.tru64unix.compaq.com/printing/bsd.html> .
Our lpd is routinely used in conjunction with scores of other
RFC1179-compliant devices and systems, including those made
by HP, Lexmark, Xerox, Emulex, AXIS, Sun, SGI, WinNT/2K, etc.
Tru64 lpd also supports some non-RFC1179 extensions, such as
specifying input-tray, output-bin, number-up, and sides.
But those options are only sent in the CF ("lpd Control File")
if a user specifies corresponding options on the lpr command
line (-I, -o, -K, -N). Jobs that specify those options are
not strictly RFC1179 compliant. But they are not used or
included in the CF by default.
Tru64 is compliant; NT is not. :-)
Kind regards
