If so remove it and try again.

and Here is my original message:

Hi Managers,

We could not add any user on one of our Alpha server (V4.0F), by shell, it
give me the following messages:

$adduser
....

Adding new user...

The password and group files are currently locked by another user.
Please try again later.
Error, exiting useradd /usr/sbin/adduser. Check /etc/passwd.

Under X11, with dxaccounts, it do nothing...

Curiously, even after a reboot by "init 0", and I'm sure that I was the
single user who use the system, but it still give me the same error! For
more information, I can login to the system with a normal user (already
existed) or root. Could anyone has any idea about this? Is there some useful
command to "see" who and how locked? and how to delocked this? Is there a
passwd file corrupted? ( I can do a: vipw, and save it without any problem,
and group files seem to be ok...)

Thanks advanced !!

PS: I don't have a lot of user account who use this server...
