Admins,
I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem on one of our 8400 machines. I have an
advfs directory set up that serves as a temporary holding space for archive
files until they're moved to tape backup. The problem I'm encountering is
that this holding space is continually filling up, which is causing the
backup to fail. The obvious answer is to add more capacity to the holding
space, but I think there's something wrong with the file system. I cd'ed to
the holding space directory, and did a "df -k ." on it. Below is the
result:
Filesystem 1024-blocks Used Available Capacity
Mounted on
sap_domain2#PRD-netbakPRD2 17773520 18 1135512 1%
/oracle/PRD/netbakPRD2
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but since the directory is almost completely
empty, shouldn't the space listed as "Available" be almost equal to the
space listed beneath "1024-blocks"? I've searched for possible space hogs,
including hidden files, but the directory in question is almost entirely
clear, and the few files that are there are all very small in size.
By way of comparison, here is another directory on the same system, that
performs a similar task to the holding directory listed above (and is also
the exact same size).
Filesystem 1024-blocks Used Available Capacity
Mounted on
sap_domain2#PRD-netbakPRD 17773520 225752 16398440 2%
/oracle/PRD/netbakPRD
Here, you can see that the "Available" space is very close to the maximum
space listed under "1024-blocks".
I'm confounded as to what the problem is with /oracle/PRD/netbakPRD2. It
claims to have plenty of free space, but doesn't seem to want to make any of
it available. There have been no errors reported by this advfs domain or
the disk it's hosted on. Does anyone have any advice? Where's my space?
Thanks,
