In essence:
Ctrl/P is not supported on the modern machines. The last machines that
supported this feature were the TurboLaser machines (8200 and 8400 series).
You can use <ctrl>]<ctrl>]rcm to bring you to the "RCM>" prompt (remote
console manager). From there you can type "haltin" to halt the system;
"haltout" to virtually take the button back out; "quit" to return to the
console; "poweroff" to turn power off; "poweron" to turn power back on.
The escape sequence can be changed from the default of ^]^]rcm to whatever
you want. We use some console management software which requires we TELNET
to a remote box. One gotcha was that in my environment, the ^]^] seemed to
be equivalent to the TELNET interruption sequence and took me to the
"telnet>" prompt!
One workaround would be I guess to change temporarily the telnet command
sequence (is this possible??) then change the RCM sequence. I just plugged
a VT terminal direct into the console port and changed it to ^[^[RCM. Using
our console management software, I now have full control. Its actually
better than CTRL/P for HALTING since you can do more than just halt.
Thanks everybody for your support.

All...
Have a number of DS20e's running V4.0F+PK7. None of them will halt via
CTRL/P. Have checked the DS20E hardware manual - I was expecting to see
reference to some hidden key/button somewhere which disables halt/ctrl-p
from the console (al la the old VAX-3000 series machines). I cant see
reference to any buttons or switches which perform this function. The only
(obvious) reference is the halt button on the front which halts the machine
(spooky that) and prevents boot-up if you leave it depressed. I cant see
anything which disables/enables ctrl/p from the console though. It seems
unlikely but I'm wondering if there is some jumper setting somewhere - maybe
on the motherboard which controls this?? Also, cant see any console
parameters which would disable this feature.
Does anybody have any ideas here?
Thanks & best regards
Tony Miller
