Thanks to responses from Jay Nash, Udo de Boer and Robert Binkley.

It appears the only way to reuse these tapes is to bulk erase (degauss)
them,
this according to the folks at Imation and FujiFilm.

We have been doing backups to our TZ89 on DLT-IV media using the TAR
command:

tar cvER /datalist.lst

This has been working well, but now we wish to take one of the tapes which
has been used thusly, and use it on a different server running MS Windows
2000. When we insert the tape, it complains "invalid media" so we phoned
Veritas and asked them how to validate the media.

They said we could use the tapes if we can re-format the tapes using the MTF
format (microsoft tape format).

Can this be done from the command line on my Alpha 4100 running Tru64 4.0g?

TIA,

Darryl Milczarek
