It looks likely that I'll be having to migrate an application that is
running on an AlphaServer 8400 to an ES40. The 8400 is currently running
4.0f and the ES40 would also be running 4.0f. If I did a clean install onto
the ES40 and upgraded it from BASE to C2, is there a way to migrate the
usernames & passwords from the 8400 over to it? If so, how will I do this?
If there isn't a way possible to migrate the passwords, will I have any
problems if I were to restore the dump tapes of / & /usr from the 8400 onto
the ES40? I know I'd have to edit /etc/fstabs, /etc/fdmns/*,
/etc/rc.config, build a new kernel, create new device files in /dev, and so
forth (similar to the steps I did when for kicks I put the 8400 onto a
PersonalWorkstation 500au). Are there any ES40 specific things that will
jump out at me with 4.0f?
Thanks,
John Losey
