tcp parameters for mailbox server

I would need some information about advised tcp parameters
for a machine dedicated to mailbox; so, many conections tcp
in ports: 143 (imapd) and 110 (pop).

In fact, yesterday we had 30-40 CLOSE_WAIT conections that
left the machine very slow.
