I have opened the system today, Installed the new 4 modules in their
respective locations, booted the system and it looks fine...
A couple of replies came back after the summary, I think they are worth
posting just in case somebody ran into that problem.
Thanks to Judith Reed, Udo Grabowski and Pat O'Brian
* There are 2 kinds of DIMMs, one stacked and the other on is
unstacked. Actually you can see them on the boards, you will see 1-
level IC's (unstacked) or 2-level IC's (stacked). The two kinds CAN NOT
be mixed.
Refer to the ES40 Owner's Manual Guide

All opinions is that it is as simple as opening the system cage,
install the memory, close the cage. But a few notes have to be
mentioned:
(1) Make sure you put the memory modules in the right place:
Look at chapter 5 in the ES40 Owner's Manual Guide
http://www.compaq.com/alphaserver/download/es40og_revb.pdf
(2) They have to be installed on sets. Installation of a 5th set in
Model 2 requires an additional power supply.
(3) Dr. Blinn said " It should be as simple as physically adding the
memory and then just powering up. However, if you have less swap space
than your physical
memory AND you are using "eager" swap mode (the default), you need to
add more swap space or you won't be able to actually use all of the
memory".

(3) Lynn Lecia suggested shutting down the system and do a fru show
command, clear any errors if present, then go ahead and add the memory
