I have finally nailed down the problem. Apparently,
dtMail and pine, both were using the wrong sendmail.cf
file..which is infact pretty old, sitting at
/usr/var/adm/sendmail directory.
That is where, under option DD in sendmail.cf, was the
string "my.domain".
It took almost an rgrep for whole system :) to locate
this.
Interestingly tests such as
/new/sendmail -C/new/sendmail/sendmail.cf -d21.12
user_at_A worked, so it suggested that pine and dtmail
where not using the right config file, and i had to go
on a hunt for it.
This opens a new question, as to how else could dtmail
be set to look somewhere else for sendmail.cf?
Since sendmails default (as of 12.3) is /etc/mail, the
only way out is a link, right? (probably easier)
Thanks to John Venier, Mike Hutchson, Lucio Chiapetti
and Anthony Talltree for their suggestions and time.
