CLOSE_WAIT states

Hi all,

I have a problem with sendmail, which socket sometimes ends in the
CLOSE_WAIT tcp state. When it happens, I am not able to kill the sendmail
process with both 9 and 15 signals and the only way to make sendmail
working again seems to be the reboot.

So I hav etwo questions:

1. is it possible to "kill" the sendmail socket in this state ?
2. is there some workaround to prevent this problem ?
