Hello all-
Over the weekend I did a fresh install of Tru 64 5.1A onto a 8200 which had
been
running 4.0G. Since the system started running osf 3.2 and had been
'installupdated'
many times, I wanted to get a fresh start. So I pulled the OS disk and
performed a
full install instead of a full update.
Overall, the software portion of the update went well, including the
installation of
jumbo patch kit 2, except for 2 things:
1) Since I did the fresh install, I kept the 'user volumes' offline until I
was done.
It turns out that was a bad idea. As you all know, the AdvFS version
increased
from 3 to 4 with this OS release, and with that change seems to have come
other
changes. I had no problem mounting any AdvFS domains which consisted of a
single device, but all of my multiple-mount point domans failed to load.
This is
a major bummer, since I have over 1T of data across 4 domains which will now
have to be reloaded from tape. I'm suprised there isn't a utility to do
this, since
installupdate has to take care of it.

It appears that a partition is missing from the

I spoke with someone at HP's support line and they said this is a known
problem
with multiple disk domains. Has anyone worked around this?
2) The system has about 300 accounts, and it was a simple matter of copying
the
/etc/passwd file from the 4.0G system to 5.1A (text files, gotta love them!).
But, since we run 'enhanced security', there is the matter of the
/var/tcb/files/auth.db file. Copying that file over to the 5.1A os got me the
following errors:
# edauth -g pugugly
edauth: unrecognized file type
edauth: unrecognized file type
Couldn't find entry named "pugugly"
#
Now, I've already solved this by going to another 4.0G system, loading the
file from the 8200 on there, and using edauth to dump it to text. Then I
copied the text to the 8200 and loaded it in with 'edauth -s'. But, was
there an easier way? Obviously, the installupdate program had a utility
to do this somewhere. Is it available to poor slobs like me who do things
the hard way?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide. I will summarize.
